Aimée lives in northern California. She has been interpreting in the community and K-12 setting for 24 years. Aimée was introduced to sign-language through a childhood friend and continued learning more about Deaf culture and sign language, eventually becoming a student aid for a special education classroom during high school.

Aimée accepted a staff educational interpreter position in 1999, her background experience allowed her to take more of a leadership role within the D/HH program. This position offered her the opportunity to work on several projects, serving as liaison between interpreters, teachers, staff and administration: leading interpreter meetings, mentoring, resourcing community programs, developing a resource library for staff, parents and students.

As a parent of a growing teenager on the spectrum; she comes with experience and a heart for working with D/HH/DA youth. She has worked in Mental Health settings and studied Human Services and Counseling. This has further motivated her to source materials to make language and learning more visual and accessible!

Aimée participated in a specialized ITP- PINeS (Program for Interpreters in Educational Setting) at Palomar Community College in San Diego in 2006. This unique program focused on preparing interpreters working in a K-12 setting and EIPA assessment. She is a certified member of RID earning her ED: K-12 certification and EIPA assessment 4.0+ for Elementary/ Secondary education and E.S.S.E assessment 4.0+ ASL, SEE and PSE.

Paula DiMuro

 Interpreter Mentor

I have been a working interpreter for over 35 years. I graduated from the

Ohlone College ITP in 1985 and was in the 2nd graduating class there. Upon graduation, I joined RID and NorCrid. I spent a few years on the NorCrid Board, was elected VP and acting NorCrid Pres. I started working at a local Junior College right after graduation. Since I was living in Marin County, CA, I also started working at the College of Marin.

I got RID Certified CICT in 1997 at which time I started free-lance interpreting in Sonoma County. I’ve done all types of community interpreting in Sonoma, Marin Counties, and the SF Bay Area.

I was hired as a Staff interpreter at Sonoma State University and worked at UC Berkeley for 1 year commuting from Marin County to Berkeley. It was a great experience!

Years later I started working VRS when I was hired at as a Staff VI for 6 years. I also got extensive VRI experience many years before Covid.

I’ve been mentoring with mentees for years, love doing it and I find I learn just as much from my mentees as they learn from me!

While free lancing I developed a specialty in Medical Interpreting, interpreting 13 surgeries in the operating room including births.

I count among my most thrilling moments in my career meeting two of the founding fathers of our profession Lou Fant, and Dennis Cokely, who both had a huge impact and were my role models to be the best interpreter I could be!  Of the great Deaf people, I met Bernard Bragg and M.J Bienvenue and went to MJ’s and Betty Colomos’s BiLingual BiCultural Center and took their classes. They inspired me to be a Bilingual/ BiCultural mediator instead of using the machine or bridge approach in my interpreting. It was a life-changing and transformational experience.
